Fire crews say a number of pigs perished in a barn blaze that broke out west of Wingham this morning.
The Fire Department of North Huron responded to a call around 6 a.m. to a barn fire on Amberley Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the barn was fully engulfed. Mutual aid was provided from Lucknow Fire Department, Howick Fire Department, Huron East Fire Department and South Bruce Fire Department.
Crews are still on scene extinguishing the fire, and Fire Chief Kent Readman says the barn is a complete loss. A full assessment of the losses won't be available until later.
Drivers are advised to avoid Amberley Road near Whitechurch Street as a result.
The fire also resulted in poor air quality for neighbouring towns this morning.
"A barn fire west of Wingham is sending smoke into town," said Chad Kregar, emergency services coordinator for Huron County. "North Huron Fire is asking residents today to keep windows closed for the time being."
