Goderich Inukshuks No More

A $68,000 insurance payout has lead to the end of one the most popular tourist attractions along the Goderich shoreline last summer.

An elderly woman who leaned on one of the Inukshuks and fell was awarded $68,000 and the town's share of that is the $15,000 deductible.

C-A-O Larry McCabe explains council voted unanimously to remove the Inukshuks to avoid further liability and also remove the rock material that was being used to make the Inukshuks. McCabe also points out anyone who erects new ones in the future could also be liable.

McCabe adds a proposal to construct one, larger Inukshuk on the beach has been passed on for consideration in the waterfront master plan.

The Inukshuks mysteriously appeared on the beach last summer and became a very popular tourist attraction as they just as mysteriously seemed to grow in numbers every night.
