Huron County councilors to get cyber security training

Huron County councilors are about to get some training in cyber security. C-A-O, Meighan Wark, explains they've had a program in place for some time now for staff, as a way of protecting county assets. But Wark says, as the scams become more frequent and more sophisticated, it was felt that including councilors in the training would be beneficial.

“One of the things that we're looking to do over the next number of months in to introduce some training to members of county council who aren't involved within our systems on a day to day basis.”

Wark adds it's important for county councilors and anyone else using email, to read the incoming email address.

“You really need to read your email address, you need to identify, even if there's one letter different from an email address that you normally correspond with, not to open attachments when you don't recognize the sender or the email seems a little bit fishy.”

Wark adds scammers are very good at knowing who you regularly communicate with and topics you're interested in so if an email looks even a little questionable, don't open any attachments and don't divulge any financial information.
