Owen Sound is set to implement a 40 per cent increase in the cost of garbage bag tags, with a recent proposal for reconsideration voted down at Monday night's council meeting.
Deputy Mayor Scott Greig, who was absent from the December 1, 2023 budget meeting where the increase was initiated in a council vote, sought support from two-thirds of council members to reopen discussions, but his plea was unsuccessful.
The initial approval, granted during the December 1 budget meeting, raised the price of a bag tag by one dollar, bringing it to $3.50 each.
The formal bylaw is still pending approval at the council's upcoming meeting on January 15, 2024.
