The CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital says both the Met and Ouellette campuses should be back to normal in about a week.
The announcement follows weeks of patient overflow from the flu. The hospital has regularly been at more than 100% capacity.
However, Chief of Staff Dr. Gary Ing says the hospital is not out of the woods yet, and is still bracing for a March flu spike.
He says this is the worst he's seen in his years at Windsor Regional, adding "hopefully we've reached a plateau, but only time can tell."
Influenza outbreaks were reported at ten long-term care facilities across the region last month, and about 30 patients are still without a bed. Also, 20 to 25 surgeries have been postponed in the last month because of the over capacity.
Ing says his staff is tired, but is confident they'll continue doing a great job.
He says the hospital has learned some lessons and should handle the next flu wave well, adding, "I think next time around we'll be much better prepared."
