Ritz Touts Value Of Chinese Trade Trip

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says his recent trip to China was a success.

It included the signing of three different agreements.

One involved the sale of 1 billion dollars worth of Canadian canola oil to China.

Another normalizes cherry exports from B-C to China, valued at 20 million dollars a year.

And the third was an arrangement to advance work to allow for the sale of fresh Canadian blueberries in China.

That one could be worth up to 65 million dollars a year.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada officials say agriculture and seafood exports to China have increased more than five-fold since 2006 to total 5 point 6 billion dollars a year.

The government says that makes China the second most valuable market for Canadian agricultural exports.
