Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Mark Wales says the provincial government recognises the importance of the agriculture sector.
But he says with the make-up of the current government, decisions about agriculture are giong to be made by people with no direct involvement in the agriculture sector. Wales says that's one of the major roles of the OFA - to make sure government decisions are realistic for the agriculture sector.
His remarks in opening this year's OFA convention included references to issues like equipment on the roads, infrastructure funding and pesticide use.
He specifically referred to the neonic situation and pending provincial rules to limit their use.
Wales argues the government is getting ahead of science on that issue since not even the bee community can agree on the problem.
The OFA is the province's largest general farm organisation.
It's 2014 annual convention runs today and tomorrow in Niagara Falls.
