OFA Markets sand Opportunities

The OFA's Don McCabe says his organisation is continuing to cultivate new markets and opportunities for the province's farm products.

He says that includes the bioeconomy - the production of renewable resources and converting them into feed, fuel, bioenergy and other bio-based products.

McCabe says one example of that is in Iowa, where farmers reported net profits of 36 dollars an acre from corn stover sales for cellulosic ethanol production.

He says Ontario has farmers ready and willing to provide the feedstock - now they need the processors and technology to extend the value chain.

And he says the ratio of grain corn production to corn stover is 1 to 1.

McCabe says there's huge potential for an Ontario biomass processing industry and the economic spin-offs and jobs that would include.
