Forages Event Hears About Holistic Approach

An agricultural educator says proper forage management can enhance soil, plant, animal and human health.

Joshua Dukart and his family run a ranch in North Dakota and spoke at a Profitable Pastures Conference in Elmwood put on by the Ontario Forage Council.

Dukart takes a holistic approach to pasture management for the benefit of all concerned.

"So we're looking at putting all the pieces together, the people component, the financial component and resource management part of it in finding the right balance of all of those things so that we can not only be sustainable now but long term into the future."

Dukart says by having animals at the right place at the right time for the right reasons ensures the health of the soil and the animals and contributes to profitability.

He adds the holistic approach can also enhance family life and the farm community.
