Olymel Strike Over - Market Re-Opens For Ontario Hogs

The strike is over at the Olymel hog processing plant in the Beauce in Quebec.

Striking unionized workers voted 70 per cent in favour of a new, 6 year deal on the weekend.

The strike started March 18th.

Company officials expect plant operations to resume gradually on two shifts, depending on hog volumes available and the product mix.

Slaughtering is to resume tomorrow - butchering Wednesday.

The Quebec plant has more than 1 thousand employees working wto shifts.

It has a weekly slaughter capacity of 35 thousand pigs.

Olymel cancelled weekly orders for more than 20 thousand Ontario pigs when the strike began.
