8 poultry farms in the Woodstock area are now under quarantine.
H5 avian influenza has been confirmed on one of them - a turkey farm.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency officials say the disease has already killed 75 hundred of the 12 thousand bird flock.
The CFIA's Paul Mayers says the other 7 Woodstock-area farms are nearby and have been quarantined to assure containment and minimization of the potential for the disease to spread.
Mayers also says additional farms may be added to the quarantine list in the coming days.
Avian influenza outbreaks are also being reported in B-C as well as in 9 U-S states.
Japan and Taiwan have already barred poultry from Ontario in response to the outbreak.
10 countries continue to ban poultry from Canada because of the outbreak in B-C.
The infected birds will not be put into the food chain.
CFIA officials say properly cooked poultry does not pose an infection risk to humans.
