Wellington County Man Fined For Meat Processing Violation

A Wellington County man has been fined for violating provincial food safety laws.

Last fall, OMAFRA officers inspected Ronald Weiland's farm in Alma.

That inspection turned up equipment and ingredients that could be used to produce what's termed 'category 2' meat products.

Inspectors also spotted numerous 'category 2' meat products in the hold cooler.

Weiland did not have the required OMAFRA licence to conduct 'category 2' activities.

The Wellington County man recently pled guilty to the charges and was fined 15 hundred dollars plus a Victim Fine Surcharge.

That offence came under the province's Food Safety and Quality Act - which could include fines of up to 50 thousand dollars and a jail sentence of not more than two years.
