Changes Being Proposed To Ontario Maple Syrup Regs

The provincial government is looking for producer feedback on changes to the regulations governing the maple syrup sector.

The potential amendments to those regulations could include making provincial grading, labelling and colour classification standards consistent with current federal requirements.

The amendments would also look at food safety, sugar content and ways to support innovative products.

The government is also looking at registering maple operations to allow for the collection of information on the industry.

The proposed changes follow changes to the federal legislation covering maple syrup.

They're all outlined in a discussion document posted on the Service Ontario website.

The document includes a feedback form.

The deadline for providing feedback on the government's maple sector proposals is July 13th.
