U-S Congressional Vote On COOL Not End Of The Battle

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz calls it a positive step.

He's reacting to last night's vote in the U-S Congress on COOL.

Almost 70 per cent of the members of Congress voted to repeal the COOL regulations dealing with beef, pork and poultry.

Ritz argues the labelling regulations are costing thousands of American jobs and doing billions in economic harm to the highly integrated North American livestock industry.

But he also warns the only way for the U-S to avoid billions in retaliatory tariffs by late summer is to ensure legislation repealing COOL passes the Senate and gets signed by President Obama.
