The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance is concerned the federal government is not fully-engaged in the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations.
CAFTA says if Canada were to back away while that agreement is concluded, it would have a devastating impact on agriculture and agri-food exports.
The Alliance argues the TPP is expecially important to Canada's agriculture and agri-food industry as we're one of the most trade-dependent agricultural sectors in the world.
CAFTA says we export over half the agri-food products we grow.
The suggestion is that not being part of a TPP deal would see our market share in countries like Japan eroded by others getting preferred access through the deal.
The Canadian Agri-Food Alliance says it's members produce 80 per cent of Canada's agriculture and agri-food exports and directly employ 500 thousand Canadians.
