Canadian Dairy Sustainability Award Finalists Named

Last year's winner was from Wellington County.

This year, no Ontario entries among the three finalists for the Dairy Farmers of Canada Dairy Farm Sustainability Award.

Those finalists are Perryhill Farm from New Brunswick, Quebec's Ferme Bois Mou 2001 and UBC's Dairy Education and Research Centre from British Columbia.

The award recognizes Canadian dairy farmers who proactively adopt on-farm management practices that are environmentally sustainable, financially viable, socially beneficial and which can be replicated on other farms.

Perryhill uses Greenhouse Gas Emission accounting, the Quebec farm uses sustainable cropping practices and UBC is working on animal welfare issues.

The winner gets a trophy and 2 thousand dollars.

That will come at Dairy Farmers of Canada's annual meeting in Vancouver in July.

Last year's winner of the Canadian Dairy Farm Sustainability Award was Clovermead Farms of Alma - owned and operated by the Whale family.
