Over 500 4-H members and alumni from across Ontario attended the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Ontario's first 4-H club in Waterloo County.
Honorable Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs cut the anniversary cake on Saturday June 20th at Steckle Farms.
Saturday's celebration marked the 100th anniversary of the very first 4-H club in Ontario.
Stanley Knapp is credited with starting the first club.
Since 1915, hundreds of thousands of youth have participated the leadership and skill development programs 4H has offered.
4-H may have established its roots in rural Ontario with traditional livestock and homemaking clubs today there are over 100 different clubs to choose from ranging rabbit hopping, to robotics and Lego building.
Following the 4-H motto "Learn to do by Doing" a club was established to plan and host the 100th anniversary celebration of Ontario's first 4H club.
The event was held at the Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener on Saturday June 20th.
Over 500 4-H members and 4-H alumni attended the dinner and barn dance.
Visitors toured historical displays and 4-H showcase and brought along old photos and scrapbooks to share memories with fellow 4-H alumni.
For 100 years now volunteers have been helping 4-H members to follow the 4-H motto and to "Learn to do by Doing."
