The University of Missouri's Ron Plain is reporting lighter slaughter weights for U-S hogs.
He cites last week's Iowa-Minnesota barrow and gilt average of just under 280 pounds.
Plain says that's down 1 and a half pounds from the week before and about 5 and a half pounds lighter than a year ago.
It's the lightest slaughter weight since October of 2013.
Plain's weekly Hog Outlook says Thursday's negotiated carcass price for plant delivered hogs was down about 2.80 on the week.
That's also the fourth consecutive week that price has dropped.
Last Friday's U-S national average negotiated barrow and gilt price was down about 2.60 from the week before.
