Sessions On New Neonic Regulations

Ontario corn and soybean growers - and those who give them advice - are being encouraged to take in one of a series of information meetings starting tonight.

Those sessions are on the new provincial neonic-treated seed regulations.

OMAFRA's Dawn Pate says growers will need this information to know what to do with their seed orders for the 2016 growing season. Pate says the sessions will focus on two components - the regulatory requirements under the Pesticide Act - and help for growers on implementing those requirements, pest assessment, scouting and assessing crop damage.

There are a total of 5 English speaking information sessions and one English teleconference.

The teleconference is tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The information sessions across our region are in Guelph tonight, St. Thomas Wednesday evening and Ridgetown on Thursday evening.

There is also extensive information available on the ontario.ca website as well as through the OMAFRA contact centre and the contact centre for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

While Grain Farmers of Ontario has legal action pending in a move to delay the implementation of these regulations, Chair Mark Brock is advising growers to take in these information sessions so they stay prepared.
