National Farmers Union Has TPP Concerns

The National Farmers Union is one agricultural organisation opposed to the Trans Pacific Partnership.

The NFU argues the deal will deny supply-managed farmers the ability to fully serve Canadian consumers.

The government has set up compensation packages for supply managed farmers impacted by the TPP.

NFU President Jan Slomp thinks the amount of money being set aside seems unnecessarily high.

Slomp suggests the intent is to completely dismantle dairy supply management over the next ten years.

The NFU argues supply management should have been kept right out of the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations.
