Turkey Group Calls TPP Granted Access 'Challenging'

Several national poultry organisations have released their responses to the Trans Pacific Partnership deal.

The Canadian Hatching Egg Producers says it regret the necessity of concessions made in the deal for it's market.

However, the organisation predicts Canadian hatching egg farmers will continue to invest in their operations and grow their businesses.

Chicken Farmers of Canada is disappointed with the additional access to it's market.

However, Chair Dave Janzen says the key for his organisation is the government's firm commitment to immediately ending fraudulent import practices that have plagued the industry for over five years.

Janzen argues the government understands that rules are being bent, loopholes are being exploited and that people are getting away with what he calls outright fraud to the detriment of the Canadian chicken industry.

And the Turkey Farmers of Canada says the additional access granted in the TPP to it's market will be challenging.

However, Chair Mark Davies says the agreement removes the cloud of uncertainty farmers have been living with over the last several years.
