More Provincial Funding For Local Food Initiatives

The provincial government is putting 6 million dollars into projects to increase the sales of local food.

The money to the Greenbelt Fund is spread over three years.

The fund will use that to support a number of programs, including projects for institutions on the broader public sector to buy and use more Ontario foods.

It will also be available for marketing activities to celebrate local food champions for their success, leadership and innovation.

Projects to improve food literacy and access to local food could also qualify for support.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says the investment will help sustain the vibrant farm economy the province is so proud of.

Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal says expanding local food purchases represents a significant opportunity for farmers and food processors, strengthening Ontario's food systems.
