Helping Protect Ontario Fruit Trees From Cold Weather

The provincial government is going to help fruit and specialty crop growers deal with cold weather.

The program will share up to 35 per cent of the cost of weather mitigation equipment.

That includes portable or fixed wind machines, heating and air movement devices and crop covers.

The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association is administering the program.

Applications will be accepted several times over the next couple of years - with the first intake running October 22nd to November 5th.

Ontario Apple Growers Chair Charles Stevens says the support will help reduce the impact of cold temperatures for his organisation's grower members.

Phil Tregunno of the ontario Tender Fruit Growers says weather mitigation equipment helps protect the tree fruit industry from unfavourable growing conditions.
