Nominees For DFO Organic Producers Advisory Committee Named

9 Ontario organic milk producers have been nominated for Dairy Farmers of Ontario's new Organic Producers Advisory Committee.

5 of them will be elected at three meetings coming up across the province.

There are some Midwestern Ontario names on that list - including Steve Hartman and Stewart Slater of Perth County, Ingo Huesing from Gray, Marte Pronk from Wellington and William J. Van Nes from Huron.

At least 6 of the 9 candidates are members of the Organic Meadow Co-operative.

The new DFO Organic Producers Advisory Committee will include 5 elected producers and three appointed board members.

It will provide input to the DFO board on matters affecting organic farm markets, programs, quota policies and organic milk pricing.

The regional meetings where the voting will take place are in Stratford, Avonmore and Belleville.

The Stratford meeting is at the Arden Park Hotel on November 4th.

The top two candidates in the total votes from all three of those meetings will serve a three year term - the next three will serve 2 year terms.

After that, all elected committee members will serve 2 year terms.
