U-S Frozen Meat Stocks Up Significantly In September

There's more frozen pork in storage in the U-S than there has been since April.

Ron Plain's weekly University of Missouri Hog Outlook says the September figure was up over 19 per cent from a year ago.

Frozen beef stocks were up over 31 per cent and chicken up almost 28 per cent from the year before.

Plain reports the average negotiated price for barrows and gilts Thursday for slaughter plant delivery was $69.26 per hundred - down 54 cents on the week.

Last week's U-S hog slaughter was down slightly from the week before, but up over 8 per cent from a year ago.

According to Plain, U-S year-to-date hog slaughter is up 8 point 1 per cent.

However, because of lighter slaughter weights, U-S year-to-date pork production is only up 7 point 3 per cent.
