Agricorp Predicting Big Surge In Ontario Winter Wheat Acres

Agricorp expects to insure about 700 thousand acres of winter wheat in Ontario this year.

Now that planting is wrapping up, the agency suggests it's time for growers to take the next step to securing their coverage by reporting planted acres.

Agricorp is encouraging producers to do that on-line, which provides round-the-clock reporting convenience.

The final date to report winter wheat acres is November 8th.

The agency points out reporting those acres accurately will ensure producers get - and pay for - the coverage they need.

Producers are also encouraged to contact Agricorp immediately if their crops are damaged.

Almost 5 thousand growers insured about 460 thousand acres of winter wheat for the 2014-15 season.

Agricorp says some of the highest winter wheat yields were reported in parts of Perth, Oxford and Chatham-Kent - with smaller pockets of high yields in Bruce, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Elgin and Wellington counties.

The agency says some of those reported yields topped 90 bushels an acre.
