Ontario/Quebec Ag Ministers Talk Trade & Climate Change

Trade agreements and climate change were among the topics discussed at a meeting of Ontario and Quebec agriculture ministers this week.

Ministers Jeff Leal of Ontario and Pierre Paradis of Quebec reiterated the need for meticulous application of clear border rules and the importance of reciprocity of standards as part of recent trade deals.

The ministers also agreed to continue discussing investments and compensation the federal government can make to preserve the future of agriculture.

And they agreed to look at funding joint research projects related to water and integrated pest management as part of efforts of the two provinces to collaborate on climate change.

Leal and Paradis are also going to champion the importance of food processing at the Agriculture Minister's Federal-Provincial-Territorial discussions and push to make it a priority area of Growing Forward 3.
