Looking For Farm Volunteers

Farmer volunteers are being sought to help increase the supply of workers to meet the growing demands of the industry.

The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council is setting up focus groups of producers to find out what farmers feel are the best ways of doing business in a number of areas, including crops, apples and honey.

The information gathered in those focus groups will be used to develop training and support tools for producers and workers.

It will also help educators enhance and develop new curriculum that reflects the modern work done on farms today.

The Council also hopes to develop a job matching tool that would link employers with qualified job seekers and student interns.

Executive Director Portia MacDonald-Dewhirst suggests this is a critical stage for producers to give their input because this research will clarify workforce requirements and develop employer best practice tools.

There's more information on the overall program and the specific focus groups being set up on the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council's website.
