Lambton County Farmer Back As OFA President

Don McCabe is back for his second term as Ontario Federation of Agriculture president.

The Lambton County farmer was un-opposed at this week's OFA convention in Toronto.

His acclamation came despite some criticism of McCabe's quote on the Ministry of Environment's news release earlier this year announcing the neonic treated seed regulations.

McCabe argues the quote does not indicate support for the regulations - but does support a pollinator health strategy.

He also says he has no regrets about providing the quote, suggesting it's opened doors for the OFA to be more involved with the government on a number of fronts, including the carbon trade issue.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is Ontario's largest general farm organisation with about 37 thousand members.

McCabe sees two majority governments with mostly urban votes as an opportunity for agriculture.

McCabe's acclamation comes despite some criticism of McCabe's comments which were part of the provincial government's news release earlier this year announcing the new Ontario neonic-treated seed regulations.

McCabe says he has no regrets about that quote.

McCabe was questioned about that quote by a delegate.
