Canadian 2015 Maple Production Down

Canada's largest maple producer saw production drop by almost 6 per cent this year.

Statistics Canada reports Quebec still accounted for over 90 per cent of the country's maple product at 8 point 1 million gallons.

The agency says the drop is partly based on lower yields and fewer taps this year.

Overall Canadian maple production was down 6 point 1 per cent from 2014 to 8 point 9 million gallons.

Ontario production was relatively unchanged at 369 thousand gallons.

Total value of Canadian maple products in 2015 slipped by 5 point 8 per cent to 358 million dollars.

That's the second straight year of lower value maple production for the country's producers.
