Canadian Livestock Groups Respond To COOL Repeal

President Obama has signed the bill that includes the repeal of COOL for cattle and hogs.

That move is getting strong positive reaction from the Canadian Cattlemen's Association and the Canadian Pork Council, the groups representing this country's cattle and hog farmers.

CCA President Dave Solverson calls it fantastic news for Canada's beef cattle producers.

The CCA says the legal fees from the court battle against COOL are nearing 4 million dollars - paid for by beef producers through their provincial check-off.

Canadian Pork Council Chair Rick Bergmann says challenging the COOL regulations has been a long and expensive fight for Canadian producers.

Earlier this year the WTO ruled for the fourth time that the Country Of Origin Labelling rules for beef and pork violated the American's WTO obligations.
