One of the unique challenges of rural food banks is the higher costs of getting food donations to communities in need.
Syngenta Canada's Rural Support Program's Rural Transportation Fund helps cover those costs.
The company contributed 10 thousand dollars to the program this year.
It's donated more than 650 thousand over the program's 15 year history.
47 grants were awarded to food banks in seven provinces in 2015 through the fund, helping an estimated 26 thousand people experiencing hunger in rural communities.
Syngenta Canada President Jay Bradshaw says hunger and nutrition-related initiatives are inextricably linked to the company's efforts to improve food security.
