Agriculture Ministry Mandate Letter Progress Report

OMAFRA is among the provincial ministries posting progress reports on it's mandate letter.

Each ministry got a mandate letter from the Premier last year outlining some of the key commitments they were expected to work on.

One of OMAFRA's mandates is to help clients deal with regulatory burdens.

The ministry says it's most recent Open for Business consultation forum resulted in greenhouse operators getting more options to deal with nutrient feed water and a more flexible and clear approach to compliance with meat regulations.

OMAFRA says it's responded to it's mandate to strengthen pollinator health by working with other ministries and stakeholders on development of a Pollinator Health Action Plan.

It reports developing an Integrated Pest Management course to ensure environmentally and economically viable management of pests as part of the mandate to reduce the use of neonics.

The ministry's mandate letter progress report also points to the Bee Mortality Production Insurance Plan launched in September as part of it's broadening of the provincial Crop Insurance program.

The full OMAFRA mandate letter progress report, along with those from the other provincial ministries, is available on the Ontario government website.
