Conservative MPP's Want Brakes On Neonic Regs

Two Ontario Conservative MPP's are taking aim at two different cabinet ministers over the provincial neonic treated seed restrictions.

Both Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Conservative Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Critic Toby Barrett are quoting a recently released study by the federal Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

They point out the study found no potential risk to bees from seed treatment using one of the neonics - Imidacloprid.

Barrett is calling on Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal to re-evaluate the pending ban based on this new evidence.

Thompson says she's going to continue to push provincial Environment and Climate Change Minister Glen Murray to re-think the regulations.

She argues moving ahead with the restrictions will negatively impact one of Ontario's largest industries.
