A new survey suggests there's been a 14 per cent increase in the amount of feed produced globally since 2011.
Alltech published the survey, which assesses the compound feed production from more than 130 countries.
The survey says poultry feed has the largest market share at 46 per cent and is growing faster than feed for any other species.
Poultry feed production increased 5 per cent in the past year, ruminant feed was up 3 per cent.
The production of feed for pigs and equine were both down 2 per cent in 2015 from 2014.
Alltech spokesman Aidan Connolly says the survey is an excellent barometer of economic health.
He argues it predicts economic growth more accurately than many other indices because it shows the growing disposable income needed to increase the amount of protein in people's diets.
