The Reeve for Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh says he's concerned about the number of small abattoirs in rural Ontario that have closed over the last few years.
Ben Van Diepenbeek raised the issue at a recent Huron County council meeting points out most farmers kill livestock for their own freezers.
Van Diepenbeek says constant changes to regulations seem to be an issue.
"Every time they meet the rules there's new rules thrown at them," says Van Diepenbeek.
Van Diepenbeek says there are only a couple of abattoirs left in Huron County that do their own killing, so farmers now have to book a time two to three months in advance.
