U-S Farmers Expect To Plant A Lot Of Corn

U-S stocks of all three major grains are higher this year than they were a year ago.

The USDA says corn stocks are up 1 per cent, soybean 15 per cent and all wheat stocks are up 20 per cent from March 1st of 2015.

The department's Prospective Plantings report is forecasting a 6 per cent increase in corn acreage this year.

If that happens, it would be the largest planted corn acreage in the U-S since 2013 and the third largest since 1944.

However, the USDA says American farmers intend to plant 1 per cent less soybean acreage and 9 per cent less wheat acreage this year.

DTN analyst Todd Hultman calls the grain stocks estimates neutral for corn and soybeans and slightly bearish for wheat.

Hultman considers the planting estimates bearish for new-crop corn, neutral for new-crop soybeans and bullish for new-crop wheat.
