Plain's Hog Outlook quotes Iowa State University figures suggesting Iowa market hogs earned an average profit of $3.66 in March - the second profitable month reported so far this year.
The outlook says last Thursday's U-S national negotiated average barrow and gilt carcass price was up 34 cents from the week before and 2 cents higher than it was a year ago.
U-S hog slaughter last week was up 2 per cent on the week, down almost 2 per cent from the same week in 2015.
