Gay Lea Chair: Dairy Sector Needs Modern, Flexible Policy

More positive response from the dairy sector to the government's announced plans to consult on a CETA impact mitigation package.

Gay lea Foods officials say they look forward to working with the Agriculture and International Trade Ministers on long-term, sustainable solutions as the dairy industry moves forward.

Chair Steve Dolson says Gay Lea is confident they can create a market environment that supports an innovative , state-of-the-art, green dairy industry that stimulates growth and investment throughout the value chain.

Dolson says that environment needs a modern, flexible policy and regulatory framework.

Dairy Farmers of Ontario Chair Ralph Dietrich says with the industry looking to modernize, the government's consultation announcement is very important.

He points out the dairy industry is already implementing a strategy to make skim solids competitive and to encourage investment in modern ingredient infrastructure as soon as possible.
