U-S Crop Planting Ahead Of Average, But Not Last Year's Pace

U-S farmers have 86 per cent of their corn planted.

That's one point ahead of the five year average, 4 points behind last year's pace.

Soybeans are 56 per cent planted - 4 points ahead of the five year average but right on where they were a year ago.

And 95 per cent of the spring wheat is in the ground - 18 points ahead of the average but the same as last year.

The USDA reports 60 per cent of the corn and 22 per cent of the soybeans have emerged so far.

That 5 per cent above the average for corn, 1 per cent for soybeans.

And the department's weekly Crop Progress Report says the winter wheat is 62 per cent good to excellent.

That's the same as last week - 17 points better than a year ago.
