Chance To Hear First-Hand Account Of Dealing With Avian Influenza

A first-hand account of what happens when your barn is infected with Avian Influenza will be part of next week's Poultry Health Day in Stratford.

Bob McCauley of Schlegel Poultry will be making that presentation.

Spokesperson Laura Bowers says given what happened last year, A-I is something that's on producers minds this spring.

The day also includes an update on poultry diseases from the Ontario Animal Health Network as well as an update on egg sexing technology.

Doctor Kayla Price of Alltech will talk about gut health in layers, including a look at how that changes between conventional, enriched and free-run systems.

Bowers says last year's inaugural event was so successful they've decided to turn it into an annual occurrence .

While walk-ins are okay, pre-registration is preferred through the Ontario Poultry Industry Council's website or by phone at 519-837-0284.

It's 60 dollars for members and farmers - 70 dollars for non-members.

The Poultry Health Day is from 9 until 4 on June 9th at the Arden Park Hotel in Stratford.
