Dairy Industry Grabbing Spotlight In Ottawa Today

There's a rally in Ottawa today to celebrate World Milk Day.

It's organised by Dairy Farmers of Canada as well as the Quebec Dairy Producers and the Agricultural Producers Union of Quebec.

They're using the rally to highlite the importance of dairy to the Canadian economy and bring attention to certain issues the industry wants the government to address.

DFC President Wally Smith argues the government has a role to play in the sustainability of the dairy industry.

He says that includes enforcing regulations and border measures and investing in the continued success of the sector.

Members of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario board and senior staff will be taking part in today's rally.

They'll be emphasizing the need for government support for modern ingredient plants to create new markets for Canadian ingredients and long-term sustainable growth.

The World Milk Day Rally on Parliament Hill runs from 12:30 'till 2.
