U-S Poultry Industry Bounce-Back From Avian Influenza Surprises Some

The U-S poultry industry has bounced back from avian influenza related trade restrictions faster than many had expected.

Rabobank's latest quarterly global poultry report says that return to international markets is creating a highly competitive trade.

The bank's Nan-Dirk Mulder says other exporters are starting to defend their market share with price reductions.

Mulder expects that will continue.

However, the Rabobank report also cautions deteriorating global market conditions can rapidly impact local market conditions.

The report suggests shortages in Asia are now starting to affect global poultry markets.

And it expects weak local and global market conditions with high feed costs will likely reduce Brazil's poultry industry growth from the 3 point 5 per cent rate of recent months .
