Health Canada Nixes Conditional Pesticide Registrations

It's now official - Health Canada is no longer issuing conditional registrations for pesticides.

Conditional registrations had been granted in the past when a scientific review determined the risks of a pesticide were acceptable but additional supporting information was required.

Effective June 1st, that practice has ended.

Health Minister Jane Philpott says the government is following through on a commitment it made in January to stop issuing those conditional registrations.

The government says this will improve the openness and transparency of Canada's pesticide regulatory system by giving the public a chance to be consulted on all mayor pesticide registration decisions.
