Canadian Pork Industry Gets Major New Investment

One of this country's major pork producer and processing companies has announced a major investment in the industry.

Olymel is putting 25 million dollars into the expansion of one of it's hog slaughterhouse and butchering facilities in Quebec.

The expansion will create up to 200 new jobs.

It will also boost the facility's slaughter capacity by a third - from 30 thousand to 40 thousand hogs a week.

Company President and CEO Rejean Nadeau says the investment will help the company meet the demands of its customers across Canada as well as worldwide.

Olymel employs about 11 thousand people in large facilities in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan.

It produces, processes and distributes pork and poultry meats - with about a third of its total sales to approximately 65 countries worldwide.
