Celebrating Food And Farming In Canada

The first ever Canada's Agriculture Day will be held next February.

It's being described as an opportunity to get involved, celebrate and be part of the conversation about food and farming.

Farm and Food Care Canada's Crystal Mackay (MAH-KIE) points out that in the 1930's, more than 90 per cent of Canadians had a connection to agriculture.

Now she says it's less than 3 per cent.

Agriculture More Than Ever is co-ordinating the event.

Their website has some suggestions on things people can do to be part of Agriculture Day on February 16th.

Spokesperson Candace Hill is encouraging industry, organisations and individuals to mark the date on calendars and come up with their own ideas and activities to promote and celebrate Canadian agriculture.

Agriculture More Than Ever was launched more than four years ago to encourage those involved in agriculture to speak up and speak positively about the industry.
