Cover Crops Focus Of Saugeen, Maitland Conservation Authority Workshops

Coffee, Crops and Donuts is a series of workshops described as being taught by farmers, for farmers with the aim of sharing experiences.

They're sponsored by the Saugeen and Maitland Conservation Authorities.

Spokesperson Tori Waugh says the workshops are designed to be extended morning coffee breaks where farmers can have a conservation more than to learn a whole lot from one presenter.

She describes the response they got from farmers approached to lead these workshops as overwhelming, which has led to what she calls a robust list of farmers to spend time with.

The focus of all the workshops will be on cover crops, with additional topics including things like soil sampling, tillage practices and nutrient management approaches.

Some workshops will also include a look at drones as well as pollinator health and habitats.

Waugh says the cover crop focus ties into the mandate of the conservation authorities because those crops are a great tool for managing water quality.

The workshop series begins July 12th and runs through the end of September.

More details are on the Saugeen and Maitland Conservation Authority websites.
