Ontario's agriculture minister describes it as a tool to support the province's agricultural and environmental goals.
The 4-R Nutrient Stewardship program focuses on using the Right Source at the Right Rate at the Right time and in the Right Place.
OMAFRA, Fertilizer Canada and the Ontario Agri Business Association set up an Ontario Memorandum of Cooperation in 2015 on the program.
Since then, the program has implemented 20 4R Demonstration Farms, reached more than 115 Ontario growers through 4R Nutrient Stewardship Workshops and enrolled 21 agri-retailers in OABA's voluntary 4R Designated Acres pilot program.
Henry Denotter is one of the 4R Demonstration Farm participants.
He says introducing subtle changes to the way a crop is fertilized using this program can produce higher yields and take measurable steps to benefit Ontario watersheds.
Progress on 4R Nutrient Stewardship in Ontario will be the focus of upcoming 4R Demonstration Tour Field Days July 27th and 28th.
Those tours depart from Chatham those days.
