The current lack of rain is becoming a serious situation for some farmers.
That's according to agronomist Peter Johnson who conducted a crop tour at the Beaver Valley farm of Don Ready.
Johnson says corn is nearing a crisis point if there's no significant rain and cooler temperatures within a week or so.
"It's getting a bit critical for the corn crop, the soy bean crop not quite so critical yet but second cut hay, lotsa guys talking about no second cut hay, certainly the dry weather hurting there so it's having some pretty significant ramifications," says Johnson.
Johnson says the jury is still out on new neonicotinoid regulations. Some farmers have found not using neonic's has made little difference to their yields, while others have lost almost entire crops.
He says farmers still have work to do in getting the message out about the importance of farmers and countering misinformation, but they're improving.
