One spokesman describes Team Bruce as an effort to encourage a local competitor, promote the sport of plowing and promote the county.
Team Bruce was set up to help finance Tiverton's Tom Evans in his participation in this year's Canadian Plowing Championships.
Evans will be representing Ontario in the reversible plowing category.
Spokesman Brian Davenport says the group was able to raise enough money to finance Evans' participation thanks to the support of local agribusinesses and agricultural organisations.
He points out it's as important to a plowman to be able to use his own equipment in competition as it is for a hockey player to use his own stick or skates.
Davenport says the main costs are lodging and travel as well as transporting that equipment to the competition site.
"To me, it's just like playing hockey. If somebody hands you a new hockey stick, new skates, it takes anybody a while to get comfortable - and may never get comfortable - so if you want to give your competitor the best chance of success it's best that they have their own equipment."
The Canadian competition is August 25th to the 27th near Ottawa.
If Evans wins that, he could represent Canada at next year's World Championships in Kenya.
Davenport says if that happens they'll be looking at a more comprehensive support campaign to help the Tiverton man be as competitive as possible against the best in the world.
